We also had to deal with extremely long lines during pickup and aggressive sales tactics. This experience came after we had to replace the first car we got off the lot because of a slow leak in one of the tires. As I said, if we were able to “fix” the mess with our hands by banging out the carpets, it’s clear that this wasn’t something worthy of a $75 charge. Associates need better training as to what constitutes a destructive mess versus something that can be cleaned with a simple wet cloth and vacuum. It would have been almost 50% of the total rental. Even if we had left a hard-to-clean mess, the fee of $75 was totally exorbitant. What this suggested to me was that Fox tries to sucker-punch its customers with exploitative fees as they are struggling to make their flights because they expect that we will have limited time to fight the charge. There were no bodily fluids or chemicals or anything else that wouldn’t have come out with a simple vacuum and a wipe-down of the floor area. Nothing destructive had happened to the vehicle. So if we were able to sufficiently clean the car in less than five minutes with nothing more than our hands - why would a Fox associate say it required $75 extra? Vacuuming the car is a service I expect will be included in the price of rental. The associate then agreed that the car was not worthy of a cleaning fee. My wife and I then proceeded to bang out the carpets with our hands, despite being short on time, and removed 90% of the dirt that way. We were told that the fee was necessary because Fox would need to devote exceptional time and effort to cleaning the vehicle. There was no damage to the vehicle, and the issue was with dust that had accumulated during our hiking.
